
Camerata Nuova, an association of Wiesbaden opera aficionados, and Opera Europa, a federation of more than 90 major European opera houses, jointly announce the
European Opera-directing Prize 2007
for newcomer opera directors up to the age of 35 years. The jury consists of respected opera house directors and experts of the European opera scene. The award is hosted by LNO Latvian National Opera, Riga. The prize will be awarded for an opera concept for
Rusalka by Antonín Dvořák
The submission should include a complete direction concept - including a content-related explanation of the concept, basic ideas for scenery, props and costumes, personnel to be involved (chorus, extras etc.), and suggestions for adaptations and/or editing, if any.
Concepts must be presented in writing to the LNO in Riga, and should include the necessary illustrations, and model(s) if required by LNO.
The concept should recognize the technical particularities and specifications of the stage. Stage plans, technical data and budgets will be made available by LNO.
A curriculum vitae must be part of the submission for the EOP.
The prize consists of three awards:
1st Prize
Euro 15.000 as director's honorarium. A guarantee of the realization of the concept at Latvian National Opera during 2008 is included in the prize.
2nd Prize
Euro 10.000 as recognition of achievement.
3rd Prize
Euro 5.000 as recognition of achievement.
